Hello all. I have a question regarding the Sights on XD pistols. A friend of mine has a XD9 service model its a great gun however you must hold at the 6 oclock to hit bullseye.

I am looking at an Xd or XDM .45 do all Xd pistol sights require you to hold at 6 o clock?

I would perfer not to purchase aftermarket sights.

Hi, welcome to the forum. I personally don't follow along with what you mean, but I know that the sights on my XDM's are sufficient for what I do. I wouldn't mind upgrading to the fiber optic sights from SA, but I can agree with you on not wanting to purchase aftermarket sights. What exactly do you mean by holding at 6:00?

I'm not sure what you mean either. Mine shoot pretty much where the top of the front sight is at 7 yards. That's the distance I like to practice at. Out to 15 yards or so the impact is always pretty much center of mass. This meets my needs as anything further is beyond my aging eyes anyway

@ roughly 10 yards if I (and any other shooter) put the sights on the bullseye the shot will go 6 or so inches high or where the 12 would be on a clock.

So inorder to hit the bullseye you would need to aim at where the 6 would be on a clock or roughly 6 inches low.

I perfer my POA to be POI. With his service model XD this is not the case. Are all XD pistol sight calibrated this way?

None of mine shoot the way you describe, I did have a sig that shot 6in low and 6in left but I fixed that problem by selling it and replacing with an xd40 service.

Hey ZeusGT: The primary use for the six o’clock hold is in competitive bullseye shooting matches when iron/open sights are in use. It is used because it gives a specific, repeatable point of aim, which is more consistent, which makes for better accuracy.

Wanting the bullets to hit in the center of the bullseye to get higher point value, the shooter sights the gun so the rounds hit high, in the center, while aiming at the bottom edge of the bull…..a six o’clock hold.
