You might consider getting a pinky extension. They really help you get a better grip on the gun.

Thanks for the link. I have small girly hands so I am quite comfortable shooting any shorter grip gun without a pinky extension.

This was the first time out with the XDS at 7 yds

Hard to argue with success. The extensions are pretty inexpensive, like $10-15. Not much to try one. You'd probably be able to hit that well at 10 yds or so.
