At One of our sister forums someone started a thread about the 4 must have guns. The 4 that were chosen were 1, Hi power centerfire rifle, 91/30 nagant. 2, Shotgun, Mossberg 500. 3, Rimfire rifle, Ruger 10/22. 4, Centerfire handgun, Glock.

Well me being who I am I had to disagree on a couple points. One being that I could not narrow it down to 4 guns, but I did have a short list of 6, their list of 4 plus a rimfire handgun and a centerfire mid power rifle.

I also did not agree on the ruger 10/22 and the Glock.

All that being said my list ended up being, 1, centerfire long range rifle, 91/30 nagant. 2, centerfire mid range rifle, M-4. 3, Shotgun, mossberg 500. 4, rimfire rifle, mosberg 702 plinkster. 5, centerfire handgun, XD. 6, Rimfire handgun, This category I actually prefer two different handguns for different reasons. One is a Browning buckmark for small game hunting when a rifle would be out of the question and two a ISSC M-22 for practice instead of the XD's. That way I would not have to burn my centerfire ammo in a bad situation.

These are far from my only firearms but these are the ones I chose. Also, you don't have double vision, hahaha, I built this set for my wife and I and I wanted a matched set so parts would interchange should the need arise.

I believe there should be five:Mosin Nagant 91/30, Mossberg/Remington shotgun, Springfield XD/XDm/XDs, Marlin 99M1 and colt AR15

I notice almost everyone included the Mosin Nagant 91/30. Why is this? What does the Mosin Nagant 91/30 offer that makes it a regular selection? As you can tell, I do not own a Mosin Nagant... perhaps with your input, I may have to put this high on my list of 'must haves'...

My current go to set includes: Colt LE6920 M-4, Ruger 10/22, Ruger Mark III 22/45, Springfield Armory XDm40 & Mossberg 590. I have several others, but would grab these in a bug out. I do want to add a long range rifle, and have been looking at a .308 or 30-06 probably by Remington. As much as I want the Barrett, it seems a little heavy for a bug out kit!!!

The mosin is the long range war horse. It is accurate with iron sights, usually more accurate than the shooter. It is rugged and works in any environment. The 7.62x54r ammo is very comparable to a 30/06, but is much more affordable. I think the last time I bought a tuna tin it was 75 bucks for 440 rounds. Plus , at 100 bucks it's a very affordable rifle.

Chuck I do like the marlin line of rifles. In fact we have both the Mi and M2 at the shop for sale. Also, some time back I decided to build my own using a Marlin 795 and a actual M-1 carbine stock. I dont know if you have seen the pics of it yet but I willpost it anyway.

911JB, that is nice. I like the Marlins also. Been very lucky in finding the old ones, Glenfield/Marlin Mdl 60, Mdl 49, Mdl 99M1, Mdl 336(.35 cal). The model 60 and 99M1 were both unfired when I got them at an estate sale.
