45 ACP Mod 2

Okay, after much thought and research, I have turned my back on the XDS and Shield platforms.

Why?

I love my XD Mod 2 9mm subcompact. Now I am seriously considering getting it a big brother, an XD Mod 2 45acp subcompact. I like the form factor obviously. I have no trouble conceal carrying the 9mm so I do not anticipate having any problems doing the same with the 45acp. I like the fact that I can have 9+1 with the flush mount mag and 13+1 with the extended mag. Being a slightly bigger gun than the XDS, I anticipate that it will handle the recoil much better so double taps will be quicker and on point quicker.

What say you guys? Other guns to consider?

I vote "go for it" Joe.
I really really like my xd mod 2 9mm sc as well and would love to have one in a .45 ACP. I also have a shield in 9mm and have been very impressed with it. You could also look into an S&W M&P sc if you would like something different. Personally I wasn't impressed with the trigger compared to the mod 2, but I would still like to have a full size version eventually.
Just remember guys the .45 in a compact or sub compact is going to have a lot of barrel jump (kick) compared to a 9mm.

Leathermaneod, a full size .45 will be much more controllable.
My suggestion to both of you is to try to find someone or shooting range that will let you shoot a sub or compact .45 of any brand to get an idea before you buy.
Point well made Top!

I hate it when people start making sense in response to my posts. ha

Hopefully, I can make it to the range where they do indeed rent .45 guns soon.

He's kinda a smart guy... ;)
Yeah, I sorta "manned down" and stayed with 9. I enjoy shooting targets and the .45 just was too much recoil for my enjoyment.
Hey Bish you didn't man down at all. The point is to be good with what works for you bud!
Okay, now reversing course.........going with another 9mm!! I got to shoot a couple of .45's yesterday and really did not realize how much of a recoil wimp I am. Neither were Mod 2, but same general size though.

So, rather than make an expensive mistake, and realizing that I am quite happy with my Mod 2 9mm already, I am going back to getting a single stack 9mm. I did not have time to rent one yesterday, but I do like the XDS in 9mm. It will probably be the one I finally get.

Stay tuned. Updates will come in the next week or so with picts of my Christmas present to myself.

Hi Joe. Remember me? Make sure if you get the XDs that it's not an XD sub like I posted somewhere else....the juries are brutal. ;)

I do not feel that I can go with a Glock 43. I had a Glock 26 for a couple of years and took it shooting several times trying to like it. Somehow, some way, that 26 and I never bonded. I sold it to buy the Mod 2 subcompact I have now. The mod 2 is a match made in heaven as far as I am concerned.

So, bottomline, no Glock for me.

I'm pushing 70 years of age, and have begun to agree with Bette Davis... who was quite accurate when she opined that aging "ain't for sissies."

Twinges of arthritis, especially in the left shoulder, have now made recoil a serious factor (that it historically hasn't been) in my choice of carry gun.

I am right there with you JoeUSooner. My 63rd birthday is in 5 days. I do not care for harsh recoil at all.

I haven't been a Glock guy either. I can tell you that for me, there's as much difference between a 26 and a 43, as there is between a XD subcompact and a XDs. Like you, the 26 is not an ideal fit for me, while the XD subcompact (Avatar pic) is perfection. Likewise the more aggressive grip texture of the XDs series is very uncomfortable for me, while the S&W Shield feels much better, and the Glock 43 is absolute perfection! Point being, if you have the opportunity to try out a 43 give it a shot ( no pun intended).
I've never owned a Glock,or a Colt,or Smith & Wesson,or even a 9mm for that matter and have no intention of getting any of them......guess I like the being in the "Odd Crowd" . :D
Okay, this was a great day!! ....................... Why, you ask?

Because I finally made a decision!! After a couple of months of wishy washy thinking and changing my mind numerous times.................................... I ordered a Shield 9mm with the Crimson Trace Green Laser already on it!! I am pumped. I ordered it from Grab A Gun for $485. When checking local gun shops, I found prices for the Shield 9 anywhere from $399 to $449, so I thought why not just get the one with the laser already for only an extra $85. Checking the Crimson Trace website, this laser goes for $279.

I am pumped! I should get an email in a couple of days to come to the Coppell, TX store to pick it up. I only live about 30 miles from it. I also ordered two 8 round extended mags. They were $16.99 each. I saw them in the local Academy Sports store for $35 each. All of this together makes me feel even more excited about this purchase, it is a great deal!

Joe
I own both the 9mm and the 45acp....it doesn't kick any more than a full size...in fact. For some reason mine actually seems to have less recoil??? Go figure...nonetheless you will love my mod2 45...so much that I bought the 9mm and as of yesterday I now own the Saint!!!
