Does anyone have a recommendation on ammo for a xd 9mm sub compact? I was nudged towards a hornady round but figured I would see what yall think. And how much different does a pistol perform from practice rounds to defense rounds? I have read that the xd is accurate to 10 yards but starts to slide off after that, can anyone verify that and what distance do yall practice at?

I have a service (4" barrel) XD Mod2, and have not found any "drop-off" in its inherent accuracy, at any distance out to 25 yards. Not sure where that idea came from... this is a well-built pistol. Admittedly, however, I've never fired a subcompact XD...

I use 124 grain FMJ practice ammo (mostly from Freedom Munitions, in Idaho), and use 115 grain JHP (Hornady) for carry/defense, in order to get reasonably similar recoil during practice.

I only shoot Federal 115gr in my mod2 9mm and it works awesome. And very reasonably priced, especially if you buy in bulk.

Hornady and Speer along with Federal Hydra Shok are all proven ammo and you can't go wrong.

I shoot and carry Hornady American Gunner .380 JHP and 9mm JHP +P. I trust this ammo completely. I haven't been able to find American Gunner .45ACP locally yet.
