I attended a local gun auction today that was also carried on the net by ProxiBid and it was surely an eye opener. Of the more than 300 guns I picked two guns, a 2009 Seecamp 32 and a 1943 Ithaca 1911, both passed my inspection, and I had every intention of taking them home, When their lots came up for bid I realized I must have missed something on my inspection of both, the gold plating. The Seecamp was in about 80% condition but the winning bid exceeded the $450 MSRP of a new gun, the 1911 winning bid exceeded book value by $200. Needless to say I was not the high bidder on either. All the winning bids far exceeded estimated book values. My wife did say that in her opinion it was a good auction, I guess because I didn't buy anything except a cup of coffee.

Auctions just go that way, I was at a farm auction about ten years and an old New England Arms single shot 20 Ga. rusted and banged up went for $425.00. The day before I could have bought one like new for $100.00.
