I was curious to see if anyone else has any input on which powders work best in 45 acp. Most notably the short barreled xds. Powders I currently Have a supply of. -Aliant Bullseye -Aliant Unique -IMR 800x I have just recently got my 45 acp dies and am trying to figure out what is best for 45. I have only reloaded 380 acp and 9mm in the past.
I've used Winchester 231 for years and have always had good results, both with cast and jacketed bullets.
I use Winchester 231 and Unique. Have for many years and both work well for jacketed and cast bullets.
I might just have to look into the Winchester 231. I will be reloading primarily 230 lead round nose bullets. Thanks.
Hi jeeper1. Welcome to the forum. Why not stop be the intro and say hello. Been quite a few years since I have been in Sequim. Used to live there years ago.
Hodgdon HP-38 is the same as Winchester 231. I've had good luck finding this as opposed to the 231. Works great in 9mm &.38spl loads to boot!
I've used the 800. Not impressed. Not clean burning. Left little bits of powder down the barrel. I use clays for lead rn. And I like it. Not to mention you don't have to use a lot of grains.
I use Bullseye exclusively in my loading of .45 ACP. It gives good velocity and its fairly clean burning in my Glocks
Bullseye has had the best results for me, with win 231 in a strong 2nd place for .45 acp. Power pistol has had best results for me with win 231 in a strong 2nd place for 9 mm. I keep a few lbs each of the Bullseye and Power pistol and have a few lbs of win 231 as backup.
I use unique. It seems to meter well, but it's dirty. That's not to say that it causes problems in 3-400 round sessions, but it takes more than a casual wipe down afterward.
