When I purchase my gun and they only have the "display" model available, what are my options? Can I order direct from SA and have it shipped, or can the gun shop order direct and I pay there? What would be less expensive. FYI, I am in Southern California. I don't want to buy a handgun that has been handled by countless people who have racked an empty chamber and dry fired a gun a hundred times.

Well I had a long talk with my local dealer. The model I want, the XD9 with a stainless steel slide, I was told he has plenty in stock so I will be getting a new one in the box.

I'd have no objection for purchasing the counter display, but they sure as hell need to give me a discount.

Agree and I have a couple but checked them out thoroughly before giving up the gold.
Surprisingly not as much wear and tear as you might think.
Hell, I rack my slides on all my just purchased guns at least 200 times over a few days to loosen them up.

Same here...you gotta break in the recoil spring and work the lube in !!
