This filet knife I made for friend of mine who had throat cancer. Sadly he passed away a couple of months ago. The blade was made from a saw mill band saw blade and the scales are heart pine from a 200 y/o house I remodeled down in Houston Tx. My friend was an avid flounder fisherman and wanted a long filet knife for those doormat sized fish.

This is my friend Danny with a really small one. 30 some odd years of smoking took him way to early.

The first 2 pics are of a Buffalo skinner I made from a coil spring of a 1987 Mustang. The style is copied from a Green River blade that Buffalo skinners used in the early 1800s. If you look closely you can see the Harmon in this blade. The leather is Horse butt and the scales are 200 year old heart pine flooring.

Pics 3/4 are of a small filet that I purchased and made the sheath for it. It came with a cheap plastic sheath and of course I had to improve on it. The textured leather is Beaver tail.

The last pic is a work in progress. The initial grid, after forging, was done by a 10yo. He got a little wild on the 2X72" belt grinder. I still have to do final grind on it then HT. For 10yo he didn't do to bad.

I love making blades from recycled materials.

And one I am still working on:
