I don't have a .44 but I do have a .45 colt and a .357 mag. They are both great guns. I originally bought a .45 colt Big Boy with the octagon barrel and brass bling finish. It is a great shooter, but heavy and care had to be taken not to scratch the pretty brass butt plate. The steel models are just the ticket for hunting. The matte finish isn't as flashy. They still have great looking walnut stocks but have a recoil pad so you can rest them on the ground without damage.

I have a A Ruger SS 7 1/2" 44 mag with Pachmayr grips. It can be shot with one hand, but one needs a lot of practice to be accurate. The added velocity coming out of the lever gun adds more killing power. The last time I read an article that compared velocities in 9mm, 357mag and 44mag lever guns like the above, it appears the one that gets the most advantage is the 357 mag. Maybe the company should offer a 357Max caliber option.
