While I do carry a Cold Steel Recon I pocket knife on my person...and have a KA-BAR in my Jeep...
I keep them there for basic utility more than self defense...although we were given IDF Krav Maga Knife Defense Combat Training by an agent when I was with the DoD.
According to the instructor..."an attacker with a knife in his hand can cover 21 feet in 1.5 seconds. Therefore anything under 21 feet is considered to be in the zone of "imminent danger of death or great bodily harm."
