Painted the engravings red, polished the barrel, PRP Xtreme black sand grip tape, and installed red Hi Viz sights today. I am done with this one just shooting and cleaning from here on out.

Yes if you are willing to share I know I would appreciate info on how you did the paint job. Tried it before myself with little success.

    I used this paint http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Z5CEH8/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got a toothpick and dipped it into the paint, I scraped it across the letters like they do with screen printing until it was all in the engravings, let it sit for 24 hours then used a real soft paper towel and non acetone fingernail polish and very lightly wiped until all that was left was what was inside the letter and I mean very lightly no pressure just the paper towel itself or you will pull the paint out of the engravings.

Sharp looking XD. Very original. How difficult were the sights to install?

I don't know. The wife was running around doing errands one day and I had here drop it off and pick it up from a local gunsmith to put them on.

Very good job Doc! I may try one of the gold fill kits on my 40 but the red on yours is tempting. I installed TruGlo Green trinium fiber sights on my 40. The factory front sight was extremely tight. Used Dremel tool to remove. My XDs 45 has red hi viz front sight and I will replace with Green fiber refills from Brownell's. Love the grip inserts but wonder how it would feel against my belly???
