    arcee72 is right. And they are even safer now days.
    When the Carolina incident happened it was commonplace to have bombers up in the air 24-7 carrying nuclear payloads. It was the height of the cold war and if memory serves, it was called "Operation Chrome Dome".
    The USAF does not fly bombers with nukes on board anymore. At least not on purpose (Minot) lol. It could be contrived as an act of war if they did.
    Just my two cents worth because it was my career for quite a long time.
    I trust the USAF. The government though???? I'm not so sure on that one! ;)
