I am an app developer and I have an idea for an app that will allow you to create a database of your weapons with pics and info as well as allow you to enter rounds fired for every session at the range.

What are your thoughts?

Many have built these apps, but I personally think it is a waste of time. I just take one pic of the gun, then the next pic will have all the serial numbers, cost, and any other useful information. These pics are then saved to a disc in my safe, with a copy on my hard drive.

I keep an MS Excel spreadsheet on all my firearms with Model #...Serial #... Date of Manufacture... Caliber... etc...and a Range Book with each firearm to record round count and other pertinent info...especially which ammo works best ( POA/POI ) in that particular gun.

Like havasu...one copy on a thumb drive and one on the hard drive...and one in a bank safe deposit box....pictures included for insurance purposes. The one at the bank gets updated with a new thumb drive every 3 months.

Don't think I would want to keep those records on a smart phone...

I also inventory my various calibers on a MS Excel spreadsheet...( Yea...my inventory IS that large )

I personally don't worry about tracking rounds. There is not enough time to worry about that silly little stuff. If that was my concern, Excel spread sheet could handle it all. Then again, if the app was free, that might be OK, but not worth paying for.

I used to use "gun tracker " app. List guns, serials, pictures, range times, cleaning times, ammo......and thats the free version i think I'm missing some other things it does. There are a couple apps out there already it looks.
