Slide spring tension seems high on new XD

I'm new to hand guns and I just bought a XD 9 mod 2, 4 inch barrel. The tension on the slide seems to be high. I can pull it back, but my wife really has to struggle with it. Is this typical with a new gun? Should I field strip and clean it? Maybe the solution is to put a few hundred rounds through it ;-). The XD 9 we used in our gun safety class (a gun shop rental) was a lot easier to rack the slide. In the meantime, I'm having my wife practice racking the slide each day. Thanks, Bill

Slide on my new xd seems ok, its the magazines that are tuff. So glad mine came with a loader assist.

Oh yeah, and the mag release button, wow is that stiff.

Hitting range again tomorrow so hopefully will break it in some more.
