Depends on what state you live in.
In S.C. and about 12 others the law says you have a duty to inform.
Looks like Indiana is "if asked"

In Pennsylvania...which IS NOT a "Must Inform" State...I just eat the ticket or tell him I'll see him in court.

Never mention the gun in an already tense situation for both parties...UNTIL it is brought up by the officer.
