Why did you pick an XD? I mean how did you break down the gun market to get to an XD? With there being 100's of models in ~20 calibers with all shapes and sizes, how did the XD stand out above the crowd.

Why not Glock, 1911, M&P or FN?

I'll break mine down later.

I like the way it fits in my hand and the ease with which you can acquire your target.
Also the loaded chamber indicator and you can fire an XD all day every day without worrying about the pistol going click instead of bang with a good choice of ammunition.
I rotate pistols quite often while concealed carrying and my XDs 45 stays in the rotation.

I carried a G19 for a couple of years, but I never really got comfortable with the grip. I couldn't pull the weapon and get on target without milking the grip.
I picked up a XDsc in a gunshop, and traded for one two days later. The grip and the natural pointing ability sold me immediately.

I carried a Beretta 96 in 40 caliber for years. Got tired of the recoil, so went to my range and tried various models. The Spring just felt better, shot easier, less recoil, and fun to shoot. Now carry a Mod 2 in 9mm and have a 45 XDs as well. Love both with the Mod 2 my favorite. Shot it today as a matter of fact 250 rounds. Love the pistol.

#1 Reason: No conventional switch type safety to fumble with in the event of emergency usage (home invasion, robbery, etc) -- yet it has nearly foolproof accidental firing by way of requiring both the trigger and grip safety to be depressed before it will discharge. I was always worried about how the Glock just having the one trigger safefy--what if it go caught up on something?

No doubt there's more than a few here that do have one or more of the above mentioned. I'm guessing your question is geared toward EDC?

I'm partial to double action, and I have smaller hands. So for me, most guns aren't comfortable to grip for long periods. The XD has always been the difference, and my XD40SC is my hands down favorite. The more aggressive grip style of the newer XDs however, doesn't suit me either. That said, outside of work my personal EDC has become the Shield 9.

Next up for me is either the new Mod.2, the XD9SC (yes I did have one, somehow my son ended up with it ), or possibly the G26 gen4.

Actually, my EDC is a DW 1911. It is reliable, shootable, thin and best of all...45 Auto!

When I went XD shopping the first time, I was really 40 S&W shopping. Glock 23 had issues, my PT101 was sub std and I really wanted something striker fired. I was close to buying a Glock, but the kaboom and no safeties blew me away. XD was a good choice, had good sights and I shot it well.

Then last year, I wanted to turn my 12 +1 into a 13 or more +1 45acp that was similar in controls to a 1911. Between the XD45 TS and STI 2011, it was close, but the XD was available configured with a rail, tough black finish, thumb safety, etc and the STI was not. So, I went back to my ol friend the XD. I love it. It is soooo easy to hit with! I got the 5" tactical XD45 with thumb safety. It is proving to be a great HD gun.

Bye bye Glock 21!

Main reason I recently purchased the XD is because it was inexpensive (online action). I also already own all the others From Glocks, Sigs, Colts, you name I probably own one, so I figured why not this one. I really have not made up my mind yet if I like it or not. I am currently in the process of modifying it to my liking.

I picked up my XD9 4" service in a trade, it felt and shot so good. It has night sights and is now my bedside gun. I also have the XD40 5" Tactical, you talk about a shooter, hard to believe the inch in barrel length makes soooo much difference.

The XDs .45 Auto was the only really compact pistol in a REAL defense caliber. Reliability of course played a part. Always fires and functions as it should.

Until two weeks ago, I didn't even know the XD existed. I had decided to buy another handgun after 20 years. I was looking back and forth at the 1911 and Glock. While looking at a local Army/Navy store, I told the dealer about my choices. He immediately introduced me to the XD models he had. I fell in love the moment it was in my hands. I'm going to be buying one in 5 months. Now my only problem is choosing the size, 4"or 5". And the caliber, 9mm 40S&W, or 45 acp. But I seem to be leaning toward the 4" 45 acp with the stainless steel slide.

Springfield XD's are some well made weapons ( other than the small problem with the safety that was corrected in the XDS 45) and it's an individual's choice as too which one. I have 2-45's in the XD model and like both. It would be hard just to choose one.If you can get to a range that has these pistols available to shoot that you are looking at be sure and try them first.

Why I picked my XD was I liked the look of the Mod 2 subcompact. I looked and a lot of 40's before choosing mine and it came down to feel, weight and looks. One day sure I may get a 1911 but I was looking for a carry model and the XD Mod 2 stood out the most.

The XD/XDM is the Glock completed. Glock lacks a safety. Safe action my bleep. Anything pulling back on the trigger will make a Glock fire. That's how I define NO SAFETY. It's why I bought an XDM-45 instead of a Glock 21. The grip safety separates the men...from the men with Glock Leg! When I recently won a Glock 19, the first thing I had to do was to get a Cominolli thumb safety installed. That was before I even took it to the range. That and a set of Truglo TFX sights, and the G19 is actually a pretty good 9mm carry pistol.
