The Winchester Model 1894 was the first commercial repeating rifle built to be used with smokeless powder. The 1894 was originally chambered to fire 2 metallic black powder cartidges, the .32-40 Winchester and .38-55 Winchester. In 1895 Winchester went to a different steel composition for rifle manufacturing that could handle higher pressure rounds and offered the rifle in .25-35 Winchester and .30-30 Winchester. The .30-30 Winchester, or .30WCF (Winchester Centerfire), is the cartridge that has become synonymous with the Model 1894.

Pictured above is my Winchester 1894 lever action carbine chambered for the .30WCF cartridge. She was manufactured in 1977 and is a top eject model. I've taken more whitetail with this carbine in the mountains and fields of Pennsylvania then with all my other hunting rifles combined...with just iron sights.

Here is a late 50s vintage Mod.1897 takedown pump gun in 12 ga. in the first pick. The secnd has a couple of rifles. The boottom one is a USRA Winchester Mod.70 in 7mm-08. It has a 3X9X40 Weaver scp[e pn it. Plan to get loading dies for it Other one on top is a Ruger .270 and should be in the Ruger tthread. Also have a 69 vintage Winch. Mod 1200 pump gun in 20 ga. that I had since I was 8 years old. It's got alot of mileage on it. Sorry no pic of that one.

Old man brought this by our table this weekend at the gunshow. It was a nice Wincester rifle in .243 cal. with a 4X Bushnell scope already mounted on a Redfield base/rings. He said he had bought it just over 40 years ago and had shot a few deer with it. He said it was not sighted in real well, just pretty close. He did not know how to adjust the scope either. He wanted 3 bills for it. It was still in perfect condition. He wanted to give it to his son, but his son wanted sometihing different, like .308 in a black poly stock. Anyway, it was a bit much. I offered 2 and the old guys at the next table offered 225. No go.

I followed the guy for a while and he had made a full circle at the gunshow. He could not get what he wanted. I threw a 240 figure at him. He asked his son if that was enough cause he was ready to leave. Son settled for 250 for the rig. O.K. for me.

Checked the specs on this gun. It is a Model 670 bolt action. Pretty much a Model 70 in a hardwood stock with pressed checkering. It was only made from 1969-73, so it is about 40 years old. Still like new and hardly any wear. I am assuming these were probably promotional models that were sold by stores likeSears, Monkey Ward, J.C. Penny etc. However, it does not have any store name on it. It really liked my handloads.

I fired the gun today with my favorite handload. A Hornady 90 gr. BTHP at a little over factory velocity. Gun was 5" to the right and 4" low at a hundred yards. Made the adjustments to the scope and zeroed in 3 more shots. Ready for the field if it doesn't get traded.
