Krystal Ball is the MSNBC anchor who was called a "dumb ass" on live TV when a prankster called the network pretending to be a US Marine who witnessed the shootdown of Malasia Air Flight 17 in Ukraine, even though he supposedly witnessed the shootdown from the US Embassy in Kiev, several hundreds of miles away from the site of the crash. When MSNBC producers, and Krystal Ball, took the bait, the prankster told them that the plane had been shot down by a missile shot "from Howard Stern's ass." Ball still did not catch on, and she asked a serious follow-up question.
After a short silence, the caller said: "Boy, you're a real dumbass, aren't you?" Producers finally caught on and they cut away to a commercial. I happened to have the TV on that channel while I was working at my computer, and I heard the whole thing. I couldn't believe it.
